Danny the K “Cigarettes and Silhouettes”

Danny the K “Cigarettes and Silhouettes”

This is the debut release from Danny Kopko who is a also a member of a number of some other band you may well know (The Shang Hi Los, Watts and The Peppermint Kicks). So even if his name is new to you, then you should at least have heard some of those bands. The fact it is also being released by the awesome Rum Bar Records should be enough to tempt you in to checking out this EP.

It’s the title track that opens this EP and it’s an excellent power pop rocker which immediately draws you in and has you humming along. That sets the tone for the rest of the songs where “Roller Derby Girl” has the feel of an old Enuff Z’ Nuff track with a hint of Costello (which is a pretty dynamite combination).

When you hear “The Skateaway” and “Sugar Rush” you’re left with a tinge of regret that this EP wasn’t released earlier in the year. They certainly have a summery feel to them and we know they’d sound even better with a bit of warm sun on our back. Overall, we only have one complaint about this release… it’s just too short! Sure you get the bonus of acoustic versions of the title track and Skateaway but we just want more tunes! We guess that an EP should leave you wanting more and that’s certainly the case here, roll on a full album release from Danny K!
