Kent – Black Deer Festival will be the first major festival to restart the live music calendar with the announcement that the ‘UK’s Best New Festival’ (Independent Festival Awards 2018) has moved 2021’s original date just a week later than scheduled to 25th – 27th June 2021. The small but dedicated independent artisans behind the much-loved and respected festival have been working hard to reconfirm artists, suppliers and vendors and move forward and plan a full and successful festival this summer compliant with latest Government guidelines.

Black Deer are excited to let ticketholders know that some of the biggest names in live music have reconfirmed for the rescheduled 2021 dates with a top line-up including legendary Belfast Cowboy Van Morrison, Robert Plant’s latest collaboration Saving Grace with Suzi Dian, Irish roots superstar singer and songwriter Imelda May and emerging UK Americana artist Jade Bird.

Showcasing music of an independent spirit across multiple stages, exquisite live fire cooking, layers of custom motorcycle culture and a curated marketplace of artisans and makers, Black Deer is a family destination festival with a community ethos.

“We’re very excited to be able to push our plans, bring together our beloved community for a 2021 edition of Black Deer and deliver one hell of a (safe!) summer party. The UK live music industry has been hit hard and we feel it is so important to support our artists, their teams and the wider festival community at the earliest opportunity. It’s not going to be easy, but we’re doing everything we can to make Black Deer Festival 2021 one to remember!” Gill Tee & Deborah Shilling, Co-Founders

Joining an already-acclaimed 2021 line-up is Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, Ward Thomas, The London African Gospel Choir interpreting Paul Simon’s Graceland on its 35th anniversary, Talisk, Emily Barker and Lady Nade.

“I am excited beyond words to be getting back into the live saddle again, playing with my band to a real audience – after the year we’ve had, it’s an incredible feeling. It feels good to kick off with an independent festival as well. I can’t wait!” – Frank Turner

THE ROADHOUSE

This is the corner of the festival where you’ll feel the growl of the Americana counterculture, with a showcase of some of the country’s top custom motorcycle builds and meaty trucks, amongst a backdrop of lifestyle vendors that’ll leave you fully kitted out and converted when the weekend is over.

Taking to the Roadhouse Stage, curated for a second year by Desertscene London, promoters of Desertfest, fans will feel the foot stomping hooks and sun-soaked desert vibes well into the night with the likes of psych rock exploration courtesy of Cheshire’s 1968, the evocative and multi-dimensional grunge-tinged riffs from South Wales’ Prosperina, true, honest and dirty rock ‘n roll from Gorilla whilst London’s Black Orchids, with Kay Elizabeth’s vocals echoing those of Janis Joplin, weave a path through expansive instrumentation and catchy rhythms – watch out for the full Roadhouse announcement to follow beginning of April 2021.

LIVE FIRE

Alongside the musical program, Black Deer Festival have built a strong allegiance with quality fodder and are once again cooking up a storm in their Live Fire Arena thanks to the skills and associates of Jon Finch and Ben Merrington – founders of Grillstock, the largest authentic BBQ festival outside of the US. They’ll be curating an outdoor kitchen with an unmatched line-up of chefs, masters of the pit, butchers and charcoal specialists that’ll have you blown away with the technical side of BBQ cooking. Live and fiery performances, cooking demonstrations and masterclasses will educate and inspire, in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Chefs include acclaimed one-man culinary experience and festival favourite (Camp Bestival, The Big Feastival) DJ BBQ, Caravan’s Group Executive Chef Matt Burgess, CountryWoodSmoke’s Marcus Bawdon, Hunter Gatherer Cook’s Nick Weston, founder of DeliVita wood-fired ovens Joe Formisano, Hang Fire Southern Kitchen’s Sam Evans & Shauna Guinn, owner of Bristol Fire School, chef and acclaimed best-selling author Genevieve Taylor, charcoal guru Whittle & Flame’s Matt Williams, world class BBQ competition team Bunch Of Swines, Game and Flames’ hunt specialist and chef Cai ap Bryn, and Weber BBQ’s Head Grill Masters Dan Cooper and Gyles Foster. Hot Tip – there’s also talk of a rather heated chilli eating competition so be prepared for a pinch of pepper madness.
